A Chinese court has sentenced a man to life in prison for killing a popular tick. The woman named Lamu was killed by pouring petrol on her body. But the killer is her ex-husband Tang. Lamu was a popular tickler and blogger. He was also alive at the time of the murder. The incident sparked outrage across China and renewed controversy over violence against women. This information was given in a report of the British media BBC on Thursday (October 14).
The Tibetan woman was very popular through social media. The Chinese version of Tic Tac Toe Down had millions of followers. He used to post videos about rural life on social media. Posting the video without any make-up received wide acclaim.
Thousands of people left messages on his Down page after the murder. In addition, millions of users of the microblogging platform ‘Weibo’ use hashtags to demand justice.
Lamu had complained to the police several times before his death. Described the incident of husband’s torture. But police did not take cognizance of the allegations, citing it as a family matter. Unable to bear the torture at one stage, she divorced her husband. Since then she has been threatening to kill her husband.
The court statement said the killings were “extremely brutal” and had a “serious negative impact” on society. China has recognized domestic violence as a crime in 2016. But such violence is still widespread in the country’s rural areas.
