Putting an end to all speculations, this time Shuvendu Adhikari has been nominated for the Nandigram constituency against Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP has announced its list of candidates for 57 seats in the first two rounds of Assembly polls on Saturday. In that list, Shishirputra famous Shuvendu Adhikari is shining next to Nandigram seat.
Even a few days ago, Shuvendu Adhikari was a loyal leader of Mamata’s party. Trusting him, Mamata made him the transport minister of West Bengal. Trinamool heavyweight leader Shuvendu has now faced his leader.
Before getting nominated, Shuvendu Adhikari challenged Mamata to become a candidate in Nandigram. Shuvendu’s challenge was that he or Mamata, who stood for the BJP, would be defeated by a margin of half a million votes.
Then Mamata accepted the challenge. He declared himself as the candidate of Nandigram.
Shuvendu Adhikari resigned from the post of MLA of Nandigram and joined BJP. Mamata then announced at Tekhali’s meeting in Nandigram that she wanted to be a candidate in Nandigram.
State President Subrata Bokshi agreed to the wishes of the party leader on the stage. Trinamool leader Shuvendu warned that whoever stands with the lotus flower will lose Mamata by half a lakh votes.
But, you should not stand in two places. BJP leaders also started saying that Mamata was looking for a safe seat in Bhabanipur for fear of losing.
The Trinamool leader on Friday announced that she would take a challenge from Nandigram and take up the challenge. In the afternoon, Shuvendu demanded, “I will lose three times as many votes in Nandigram as I used to lose in Bhabanipur.”
According to Anandabazar, Shuvendu expressed his desire to be a candidate in Nandigram at the BJP core committee meeting. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh stood by his side.
The BJP has also received positive reports from Nandigram. Nandigram became the high voltage center of the state as soon as the top leadership of the party announced Shuvendu as its candidate. Shuvendu faces Mamata on the battlefield.
