Like opening teammate David Warner, Australian captain Aaron Finch also suffered from a long run drought. However, on the day of Warner’s return, there was a storm in Finch’s bat as well. This right-handed batsman has built a great reputation in it.
Finch is the fifth cricketer in international cricket to cross the 2,500-run milestone. Finch had 2,473 runs in the International Twenty20 before taking to the field against Sri Lanka yesterday. With this run, the Aussie captain started chasing the target for Australia by hitting Chamika Karunaratne with two fours in the first over.
Finch then played some great shots in the first ball of the fifth over of the innings, hitting Chamira with a six over long on the record book. The other four batsmen in Finchbad are Virat Kohli, Martin Guptill, Rohit Sharma and Paul Sterling.
Run machine Virat Kohli is at the top of this list. He is at the top with 3216 runs at an average of 52.71. He also holds the record of being the only cricketer to score 3,000 runs in international cricket so far.
After Kohli, the other three batsmen on the list are New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (2956), Kohli’s teammate Rohit Rohit (2864) and Ireland opener Paul Sterling (2570). Although Finch has barely joined them, his position is second only to Kohli’s as an average.
