After five decades, the color of the French national flag changed. French government officials have told local media that President Emmanuel Macron has decided to change the color of the tricolor flag from dark blue to dark navy blue.
Last year, a new national flag was hoisted at the presidential palace. But many did not notice. News from the BBC.
According to French government sources, President Macron has brought back the old navy blue because it symbolizes the French Revolution. Until 1986, the national flag was painted navy blue. Then the then President Gisard Deisting changed the color of the flag. The color is dark blue in harmony with the flag of the European Union.
However, the French navy and other government agencies used navy blue from the beginning. That is what has been used for decades. But President Gisard decided that since the flag of the European Union is next to the French flag, two flags should be of the same color.
However, no official order was issued from the Elysee Palace to change the color of the flag. No guidelines were given in any government institution. Many have opposed the president’s decision. According to them, the color navy blue does not look good. Again, many are nostalgic about the color of the pre-1967 flag. They welcomed the decision.
